Meta-owned WhatsApp is testing a new voicemail feature that allows users to leave a voice message when a call goes unanswered.
According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android introduces a feature where users will see three options if a call is not picked up:
- Record a voice message
- Cancel the attempt
- Call again
This new option will appear at the bottom of the call interface once the recipient fails to answer. The “Record Voice Message” button will also be displayed directly in the chat window of the missed call, making it easier to send a quick update or response without needing to reinitiate the call.
How the Feature Works
While WhatsApp already allows users to send voice notes within chats, this feature is designed specifically for missed calls. The recorded message is automatically sent into the conversation, offering a more seamless and time-saving communication option.
Currently, the feature is limited to a small group of Android beta testers who have updated to the latest WhatsApp beta via the Google Play Store. Reports suggest that it will be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks, before a wider public release.
Why This Matters
The voicemail feature is expected to improve the calling experience on WhatsApp by providing a convenient alternative to text messages or repeated call attempts. For users, it offers a faster and more personal way to communicate when a call goes unanswered.
